The KM2 GRAPHER allows to represent complex graphs and knowledge.

1. PRINCIPLES

Graphs are drawings built with nodes and vertices.

• Vertices are represented by lines, and connect the nodes
• Nodes and vertices contain semantiv infomration and graphical information.
• Sets are groups of nodes. Sets can be defined :
  • intensively (by listing all nodes in the set)
  • extensively (by a relation between nodes)
  Sets are represented with lines surrounding nodes.

On the right is an example of graph, with nodes, vertices and sets.
Nodes, vertices and sets can have different visual shapes.

The KM2 grapher allows :

• to edit, save and reload graphs.

What makes the KM2 grapher special :

• create easily nodes
• redraw quickly and efficicently the entire or portions of the graph
• to select subsets of the nodes or of the vertices, according to several methods
• to manipulate sets by topology and gemoetry.

Graphs created in the grapher are searchable with the KM2 indexing tool.

You can switch easily between the KM2 GRAPHER window and the COMMAND WINDOW with Ctrl-Space key.

2.1. THE PANES

The grapher tool has the following panes : GRAPHICS : The main window where the graphs are drawn NODE TOOLS : information and edit the information and graphical properties of nodes and vertices. SEARCH : allows to search in the graphs and in the KM2 database GRAPH TOOLS : allow to change the display graph and positions of the nodes. INFORMATION LINE : list of opened files

3.1. GRAPHICS

The graphics pane displays the available nodes.

Possible actions Elevators : The bottom and right elevators move the visible part of the graph. Ctrl-wheel : Shrinks or enlarge the graph. Shift Wheel : Moves the graph to the right/Left Alt-Wheel : Moves the graph up / down. Ctrl-A : Selects all nodes in the graph. Ctrl-r : Runs through the previous selections of nodes or vertices. Ctrl-R : Runs through the previous selections of nodes or vertices forward. (inveseof Ctrl-r) Esc : Deselect Nodes and graphs. STop any other on going action on editing. Actions on nodes Click on a node : Select one or many nodes according to the SELECT MODE F2 : Opens a text-window for modifying the text of the node. A second F2 closes the window Escape closes the windo without saving the content Actions on vertices Click on a vertex : Select this vertex RIGHT-CLIC MENU EXPAND : Expands the node according to the content If the hyperlink of the node is a dir ==> shows the files of the dir If the hyperlink of the node is a wikipedia link ==> shows all adjacent links on wikipedia. COPY STYLE : copy the style (graphic description) of the node/vertex. PASTE STYLE : pastes the previously copied style to the new nodes selected. SELECT SIMILAR : This actions selects nodes/vertices which have a similar graphical appearance as the selected node/vertex. Very useful ! SEARCH : WEB : launches the search on the web with google KM2 : launches the search inside KM2

Changing the display This set of tools allows to place the global graph within the visible window.

In detail :

• Aa : enlarge/Reduce fonts in the graph.
• +- : enlarge/reduce the size of the graph.
• Other icons : reposition the graph

3.3. TOOLS FOR NODES AND VERTICES

Tools for nodes and vertices allow to manipulate the content and graphics properties of nodes and vertices. Tools apply to nodes and vertices once they have been selected (through one the various selection methods).

3.4. SEARCH

The search tool is extremely powerful and easy to use :
You can :

• Select the fields in the graph you want to choose.
  • You can select also by graphical items (ex : color)
  • Selecting with icons
    • You can select icons by clicking the RIGHT BUTTON on the icon we want to select
      
    • This will insert the name of the icon in the search field :
      
• Find : launches the finder inside the displayed graph, or inside KM2, or on the web.
• Replace some text by another
